| "Somerset
County Council's Education Department has had a long
established commitment to promote courses for
exceptionally able students of 9 - 16 years. Kilve Court
has been the focus for this provision for Gifted and
Talented children (formerly Exceptionally Able Children)
for many years and is the leading organisation and venue
with responsibility for work in this field in the Somerset
LEA.
The
programme is open to students from any LEA or school and
the presence of students from a wide range of schools,
backgrounds and areas has further enhanced the quality of
the courses.
The
Centre organises these courses in a range of subjects and
varying lengths, from 1 to 5 days. They are advertised to
all schools and colleges in Somerset and many in
surrounding counties who have expressed an interest and
have sent students in the past. The children are
recommended by the Headteacher and other appropriate
members of staff. Parents are asked if they wish to have
their children nominated and, for those who agree, the
school makes an application to Kilve Court. In a typical
academic year approximately 1400 children attend Kilve
Court's Gifted and Talented Children's courses.
Bursaries
are available from a number of sources to help meet part
of the cost of a course at Kilve Court when parents are
unable to afford the full fee.
If you
are interested in finding out more about these courses
please approach the Headteacher or the Able Children's
Co-ordinator at your child's school."
