| Sparky's ....?
Ah, my name's Sparky the leprechaun. You probably
think all leprehauns are the same, but your wrong. I
come from the south of Ireland. Where, if you catch one
of us you get a pot of gold but, if you catch a north of
Ireland leprechaun, you get a car bomb!
One day in the south of Ireland, I was reading a book about
dragons. Suddenly there was a knock at the ancient
decaying door of my house. I went to open it, but a huge
monstrous giant of a man smashed down the door.
"Master here's the dragon you asked for" boomed the
giant. Funny thing really I didn't order a dragon but I
never turn down a gift. "So dragon what's your
name?" I asked. "My name is Legend and I'm a
vegetarian dragon" he replied. "A vegetarian?"
I laughed nervously, still frightened that he would burn my
house down. We spent the night playing Monopoly, of
course I let him win, I don't like singed eyebrows you know.
The next day, I woke up and went over to the dragon and
started to shout at it in an attempt to wake him up as
well. The dragon suddenly woke up in shock and I said,
"This is your wake up call" "What's the
problem?" asked Legend yawning out a small ball of fire,
just missing me as it shot over my shoulder and hit a chair,
leaving it black and smouldering. "We're off to find a
pot of gold at the end of the rainbow" I said pointing at
a coloured bow in the sky, "and you're going to help
me" "How am I going to help you?" asked Legend.
"You're going to fly me there. you do have wings
don't you?" I asked. "Of course I have" Legend
replied, "but what's in it for me?" "How about
we split the gold fifty, fifty" I suggested.
"What's to stop me taking the gold for myself?" the
dragon sneered. "Ah, don't you know only leprechauns can
touch the gold whilst it's in the rainbow, so you see I need
you and you need me if we're to have the gold" I informed
him.
One hour later we set off on the road and the dragon said,
"Hop on my back, we'll fly the rest of the way" so I
clambered onto his back. Legend spread out his wings and
started to run until we picked up speeds of 150mph and were
flying through the sky. The wind was racing through my
hair and it started to get cold and dark. "Lets find a
shelter for the night" I said to the dragon. The
dragon swooped down to a cave in the side of a rock. It
was dark and gloomy in the cave and I couldn't see where I was
going, but luckily the dragon's eyes lit up the cave and I
found a place to sleep in the end.
By the next afternoon we were half way to the
rainbow. "We're almost there now" I reassured
the dragon. We had travelled through ice, forests, and
water searching for the pot of gold. "Let's stop
off at the KFC down there, you can stay outside while I go in
to get some food for us" I informed legend. We
landed gently on the ground, but by the time I had the food
and came out, Legend had gone. He had been taken by
pixies, there was still pixie dust on the ground.
"I'll never get him back!" I sulked. just then
a Northern Ireland leprechaun came up to me and asked,
"Can I recruit you to the Northern Ireland society of
Leprechauns?" I had to say yes because Northern Ireland
leprechauns scare me. the leprehaun demanded, "Hold
out your hands" so I did and he gave me a car bomb,
"go do your worse" he chuckled. "That's a
thought" I said to myself, I didn't need telling twice
and I was away in a jiffy, getting nearer and nearer to the
pixie's castle. I stood at the entrance of the castle
and hurled a car bomb at the door. The door exploded, I
ran inside and went straight to the boiler room because I knew
that they would turn Legend into a fire slave and work him to
the bone. you see, pixie's don't have very good central
heating, so they capture dragons to heat their boilers
up. When the dragon runs out of fire they turn them into
dragon steaks. I didn't want that for Legend. I
suddenly saw a glimpse of fire from around the corner and
there he was as clear as clear could be. "Lets get out of
hear" I screamed. I got on his back and we were
off, smashing through the roof. "Why didn't you burn them
to a crisp" I screamed at him. "Because they put me
under a spell so that I couldn't hurt them" Legend
replied.
Legend and I flew as fast as we could away from the Pixie's
castle. The sun was starting to rise in the sky but a
huge grey cloud drifted over the top of us. to begin
with there were only little drops of rain falling on us but
then it suddenly pelted down like icy cold needles.
Legend shivered, and struggled to keep high in the sky.
Gradually we flew away from the cloud and suddenly in the
distance we could see a rainbow. "That's my rainbow
and I can see my pot of gold" I shouted.
"Whose pot of gold" the dragon asked. "Ah,
sorry Legend, I meant our pot of gold" I
remembered. We flew at full speed ahead until we reached
the rainbow and stopped on the ground with the pot of gold
above me. Legend got his breath back and we flew upwards
again getting nearer to the pot of gold. I had to stand
on the back of Legend to reach the pot but even on his back I
couldn't reach it and Legend couldn't fly any higher because
he was exhausted. "Climb on my head" Legend insisted
"you'll be even closer then". I clambered
steadily across his spiky back, reaching for the horns on his
head. I stood up, wobbling, I was absolutely terrified
but nothing was going to keep me away from that gold. I
grabbed it in one snatch and balanced it on the end of
Legend's nose.
I had just sat down on the top of Legend's bony head, when
suddenly the dragon flicked his head upwards and I was hurled
high up into the air. I could see the pot of gold
falling toward the earth and Legend flying after it leaving me
falling to my fatal death. Legend landed like a feather
catching the pot of gold before it hit the ground and placed
it gently by his feet. As I continued to fall I could
see Legend's beady eyes look up at me. He opened his
mouth urgently, "I'm dead" I thought as I fell into
Legend's mouth and slipped down his throat into a huge smelly
slimy stomach.
So here I am slowly being digested and I can see all of his
organs working and making disgusting sounds. the moral
of the story is never trust a dragon especially a vegetarian
dragon with bad breath.
THE END

| Jed, Rosie and the Chase
James gazed out of the window, the stunning view grasping
his attention. in the dense sky a rainbow had formed,
the end gradually disappearing. Meanwhile, Harvey and
their smaller brother Jedadia were play fighting on the floor,
trying not to bump his head. At that moment there was a
familiar click, coming from the latch in the door. It
was their mother returning from her shopping trip.
"Some help guys!" she pleaded, struggling to
carry the entire load.
"Ok," Harvey answered, nudging James out of his
'trance!'
"I'll just put Jed upstairs!" he finished,
beckoning him with his finger. Jed obediently followed,
yawning purposely. Harvey accompanied his younger
brother to his bedroom, tucking him into the covers
(embroidered with miniature Thomas the Tank Engines) and
switching on the TV.
"Make sure you watch the telly, but don't come
downstairs," Harvey instructed firmly, assuming that the
exhausted tyke would be asleep in no time. This was
probably the most ridiculous thing possible to say to a 2 year
old toddler. Harvey strolled out, hopped down the stairs
and entered the kitchen, where his mum and brother had began
to unpack. Slipping out of bed, ensuring that he had
brought his blanket, Jed tiptoed out onto the landing.
He glanced around him, and then started to bump down the
stairs. When he finally reached the end step, Jed,
unfortunately, spied the door. Mischievous as he was,
Jed crawled eagerly towards it, slipping through the narrow
gap in the mahogany wood and into the big, wide, world.
Ambling down the sodden path, Rosie, the family cat slipped
out from nowhere, Jed caught a glimpse of her padding out of
the gate. Feeling compelled to do so, he trotted after
her, halting Rosie and persuading her to join him - using a
piece of crumbly biscuit, (chocolate digestives to be
precise!)
Jed and his 'faithful companion' began walking along the
pavement, vehicles scooting by, instructed by multi-coloured
lights, flashing continuously. Jed could not overcome
the strange feeling of away from his parents and siblings, but
Rosie was comforting him with her favourite activity, stoking
her silky, golden fur against his leg. After slightly
more exploring, Jed and Rosie came across a large German
Shepherd, posed proudly beside his owner. Flinching,
Rosie followed Jed across the zebra crossing and onto the
opposite side.
Cautiously, Jed walked towards the animal, Rosie following
apprehensively. She was trembling like a leaf, her heart
pounding like a pneumatic drill. If the dog sense her,
she was cat-meat. Approaching the dog, Jed was surprised
about its size, the fearsome creature towering above him
bearing its dagger-like teeth. The dog, sensing an
intruder in his territory, and catching a glimpse of Rosie's
eye, (which was reflecting off of the beaming sun) leapt
forward, snapping his lead, and hurtled towards them.
Rosie gave Jed a sharp look, instructing him to run, though
he didn't understand. She scampered off, leaving the
dazzled infant alone, she returned to rescue him.
Realising the consequences, Jed clenched her flea collar,
(almost strangling the poor beast!) jerked it slightly and
began frantically retreating from the dog, which almost had
collided with the victims. Rosie and Jed lead their
pursuer towards the park, bursting through bushes and
intertwining through dawdling people. Skidding
dangerously around the corner, Rosie and Jed cannoned into a
woman pushing a pram causing her to lose control.
Luckily the astonished mother only stumbled and was able to
maintain her balance. She grabbed the handle, staring
sternly at the retreating figures. Suddenly, another
animal came rushing past.
"What is this world coming to" she sighed.
Returning to the chase, the dog was gaining speed.
Jed glanced over his left shoulder, not enjoying his
view. "Blackmog" Jed screamed, which probably
meant something along the lines of hurry up he is catching
up. Rosie, swiftly doging a snail was desperately trying
to engage her brain. If only she could remember the
quickest route to lead them to safety. Was it down the
path and through the door, or around the back and through the
hole in the fence? Rosie picked the second option.
If she went this way the enormous dog could not possibly fit
through the tiny hold in the fence or could he?
No more time to think she continued. Lolloping along
the path, Jed was familiar with his surroundings with an extra
boost of confidence he unwrapped his tiny fingers from around
Rosie's neck and followed her through the fence. A
moment later a familiar barking sound came from outside the
garden. Alarmed, but assured that the dog could not slip
through, the two adventurers walked triumphantly towards their
house.
Climbing up the stairs was difficult for Jed as he was not
as elegant and light footed as Rosie. He clambered up
the stairs and crawled sleepily onto the landing. Almost
magnetically pulled towards it, he ran to his bedroom, through
the door and up onto his comfy bed.
"Go and check on Jed, James" mum ordered,
wondering why she hadn't seen him the entire night.
Bounding up the stairs James reached his brothers
bedroom. Creeping in, he stared at his smaller brothers
bed. he was sleeping contently just where Harvey had
left him!
