SSCO Expansions
|
Plans are well under way for the smooth transition to 2
Partnerships and all schools involved from September 2005.
The applications have been well received with the King Edmunds
Partnership being confirmed and The Grange assured for the end
of March.
This term we have worked with the Secondary Heads of PE in order
to assist them in their planning for implementing the programme,
including timetable issues (Tuesday's to remain an SSCO day),
funding and identifying and recruiting an SSCO.
This was followed by a prospective SSCO workshop where current
SSCO's gave representations of what their roles included.
We are currently attending Area Heads meetings in order to bring
Primary Heads up to speed and to support them in their
identification of PLT's. A letter has gone to all
Secondary Heads to identify the next stages in the recruitment
of SSCO's and the implementation of the programme within each
school.
Please contact Jeanette Quinn or myself if you require further
assistance or support. By the time this is printed all 3
PDM's should be in post to start summer term, Sue Odgers
three days a week based at Riverside, Caroline Bungay three days
at The Grange and A.N.Other four days and one day on the
community side of the King Edmunds Partnership.

CPD
|
|
This term has seen training in FUNdamentals, SAQ, Brain Gym and
Circus Skills for our PLT and SSCO schools. Our drive this
year is to impact on whole school and therefore these courses
have been available to all schools staff. Staff holding
various posts have attended, from deputy heads to teaching
assistants.

Filton - High Five Netball
|
|
During November, teachers from both the Filton and the Patchway
families received training on this version of netball,
recommended by All England for under 11's. It enables pupils to
develop all round netball skills and doesn't label a player with
a certain position for life. Following this well attended
training, the Filton family pupils have been invited to High
Five Netball training, based at Filton High. This will run
for four weeks ending in a tournament, all ably assisted by
efficient JSLA students.

Girls Cricket
|
|
Through the SSCO programme, and links with Sports Development,
Filton High accessed free equipment and cricket coaching, from a
qualified cricket coach. This was part of an initiative to
get girls interested in cricket and culminated in a tournament
held at the superb facilities of Next Generation. Thirty
girls had coaching and two teams were entered. The girls
enjoyed the competition and experienced facilities of the
highest quality.

Inclusion - Table Top Cricket
|
|
Pupils from eight schools across the authority enjoyed a day of
Table Top Cricket at Gloucestershire County Cricket Ground in
January. The competition was fierce with all pupils aiming
for high scores. The official umpires from the County
Ground had a difficult job and were pleased with the support
from the JSLA students from The Grange School. The winning
team was The Star Centre from Cheltenham; they will
represent the South West Region at the National Team finals at
Lords in June. Culverhill School also won a trophy.
Well done to both teams and a big thank you to all pupils for
their enthusiasm and commitment on the day.

Kingsfield - Brazilian Soccer
|
|
This term girls and boys from year 7, together with year 6
pupils from the primaries involved in the School Sports
Co-ordinator Programme, have attended Brazilian Soccer Skills
coaching. The course ran for six weeks at Kingsfield on
Mondays after school. All those that attended showed that
they had greatly improved their control of the football and had
a fun time. There are another six sessions planned for
next term for anybody who missed out this time.

The Grange
|
|
CLSA students from The Grange have enjoyed taking games lessons
in local primaries and will attend the Step into Sport
Conference at Bath University. Four students in Year 11
assisted at the Special Schools Table Top Cricket
festival. JSLA students have been working with Warmley
Park students and will be joining with them for the Top Link
Basketball Festival in April.

King Edmunds - Key Stage One Dance Festival
|
|
On Wednesday 26th January 2005, King Edmunds Community School
hosted a Key Stage 1 Dance Festival for the local schools in the
Yate area. The CSLA students at King Edmunds worked with a
specialist Dance coach to host this enjoyable afternoon.
This was a huge success with St Mary's, Kingscourt, Wellesley
and Rodford all taking part. Thank you to all those
involved - it proved to be a great afternoon and I think the
photos show this!

Celebration Event
|
|
Plans are well underway for the end of the 3 year Celebration

Kingswood on Wednesday 6th July, 7.00 - 9.00pm. Some of
the wonderful work that has happened over the last three years
