First I would like to thank all the SSCO's who have taken on
their new responsibilities with professionalism, hard work, and
an openness, which has been refreshing and made this first year
of the partnership a rewarding and exciting place to be!
My thanks and best wishes go to Andy Holt, Ruth Ruck, Kath
Britton and Sally Gilbert who are moving onwards and
upwards! They assure me it's nothing I said! We look
forward to working with their replacements in September.
Congratulations to Caroline Bungay who has been appointed as
assistant PDM and will work from The Grange two days a week in
this role and two days as SSCO. The government has added
to the grant funding to enable all partnerships to have fulltime
PDM's and for the programme to continue and expand to all
schools from 2005 / 6. About time too! Its a reality
that all schools in South Gloucestershire will be able to
be part of the programme in one of two partnerships.

Training
|
|
SAQ training took place in April. Oh what fun!! 30 primary
teachers, a number of TOPS trainers and the SSCO's all strutted
their stuff - some more than others!! A great day was had
by all and beginning now to be incorporated into lessons and
OSHL across the partnership. This training is part of our
Long Term Athlete Development Strategy and was funded by an
Awards For All grant. Twenty coaches with strong school
links have just taken the SAQ preliminary award and this will be
followed by a 3 hour course for secondary teachers on 20th
January 2004.

More Funding
|
|
We have just heard of our successful bid to NOF for OSHL.
This will be £114,000 which will be used in such projects as
Huff and Puff - a programme of training for SMSA's and equipment
for schools to use at lunchtimes with KS1 / 2 pupils.
Circus Skills, Dance, Hockey, SAQ, Alternative Games for
inclusion and integration, and Brazilian Skills Soccer - done in
time to Samba music. We will now be able to plan
activities, coaches, equipment and training to role out from
September.

New Initiative: Tri Golf
|
|
Training took place with Glen Ross from the golf
foundation. All SSCO's have been trained recently and will
be looking to work with the PLT's in order to implement this
into KS1 / 2. Schemes of Work and resources cards and
equipment will accompany the training and will be paid for by
the partnership! FANTASTIC! KS3 to follow and each
family will have a link to a local golf club and gain some free
coaching sessions from the golf pro and link to the club.

TOP Link Festivals
|
|
One of the three authorities in the country to work with YST and
The British Olympic Association in order to pilot and influence
resources for next years' TOP Link festivals with the Athens
Olympics as a theme. Opening ceremonies, games oaths,
representing Olympic countries, including the making of flags
were all tried. It followed that because of this work
Katherine Merry 400m Sydney bronze medalist attended the South
Gloucestershire Athletics Championships, and Kate Allenby,
modern pentathlon bronze medallist attended the South
Gloucestershire airbus festival. Fantastic role models for
our young children to meet! The partnership will have
hosted 5 festivals this term, which have been very well
supported, and a real success both in terms of numbers attending
(approximately 800 pupils) and for the older students who have
managed and organised the coaching and the festivals and umpired
on the day.

Netball Hi Fives
|
|
We have been working closely with Annette Cook, the Sports West
Netball Development Officer, to introduce Hi Fives Netball
across the partnership. She has begun by training teachers
in the King Edmunds family and other schools in the area.
Training for CSLA students will follow in the autumn term
followed by Hi Five fixtures and festivals. Annette and
Anna Beadle will continue to support schools in the transition
from 7 a-side netball. Other families will be bought on
board throughout the year.
