School Sports Co-ordinator Programme (SSCO)

What is this Programme and what effects will it have?

Key Principals:

  • Integrated Sports Development and Partnership
  • Support for PE
  • Focus on disadvantage and inclusion

Schools working together in families and a whole school approach

We were selected by Sport England to be in Phase 5 of the programme with a February 1st deadline for the bid and a September 2002 roll out.  We were successful in this bid and have been awarded £428,00 over 3 years, the partnership have agreed to contribute 10% which is Approx £14,500 per year.  It is a national initiative, which the secondary schools that were invited to be involved, were extremely positive and determined that we should not miss out.  They themselves were selected on the deprivation indices.  This is a really exciting time for sport and PE and there is now lots of data proving that a good sports and PE programme within a school has great effect in improving attitudes and attainment; the SSCO initiative should be a powerful vehicle in raising standards.
