School Sports Co-ordinator Programme (SSCO)

Expansion of the SSCO Programme - September 2005

As from September 2005 all schools within South Gloucestershire have been invited to be part of the SSCO Programme.

Numerous meetings with the Youth Sports Trust, Directors of Education and Community Services, and the Heads of The Grange and King Edmunds, the two Sports Colleges, were held from September 2003.  Following these meetings presentations to Secondary and Primary Heads have resulted in all schools being informed of the National perspective on PE and School Sport, the SSCO programme nationally and how it fits within South Gloucestershire's Sports Plan.

The application is under way and it has been agreed that there will be two partnerships.  One with The Grange and one with King Edmunds as the hub sites.  Secondary and primary schools are being matched within certain criteria and it is expected that 100% of schools will be included.

It has been agreed that, due to the success of running the programme from the LEA and Sports Development over the last two years, the future management will be as follows:

Two full time PDM posts will be split between three posts.  A strategic PDM based at Riverside Court linking with Sports Development but working through the LEA.  Line managing the two operational PDM's based at The Grange and King Edmunds.  However, they will also be line managed by the Director of Sport within their respective schools.  The strategic PDM will be managed by The Youth Sports Development Adviser.  This approach will give the two partnerships coherence, close links with the LEA, Sports Development and each other, enabling sharing of best practice, close liaison with key strategic players and operational success because of this.
