Q1: What qualifications would I need to apply for a Cover Supervisor post?A: This is a new post for which there are currently no nationally recognised standards. However, as a minimum you would need to have good interpersonal and organisational skills. |

Q2: What pay scales apply to Cover Supervisor positions?A: There are no nationally agreed pay scales, however, there is a locally agreed job description which is linked to the Hay pay scale. |

Q3: Are there opportunities for training and networking?A: The Induction for Teaching Assistants provided by the Local Authority at no cost to schools is a useful starting point and it provides a useful overview with specific modules on Behaviour Management and Inclusion. Further generic training can be accessed via the CPD Programme. In addition, a facilitated local network exists to share good practice and identify training needs. |

Q4: Are there opportunities to progress in this role?A: As this is a new position, opportunities are emerging all
of the time depending upon the individual context of the school. It is
possible for Cover Supervisors to move towards becoming a HLTA.

Q5: Will I have access to regular discussions with my line manager about how well I am doing (Performance Review)?A: It is hoped that you would, although the length of the cycle will vary from school to school. |

Q6: How can I improve my basic skills in English, Mathematics and ICT?A: There are various ways of gaining a qualification in these
skills for life areas. GCSEs and adult Numeracy, adult literacy and ICT
qualifications are offered at local Further Education Colleges.
