Frequently Asked Questions>  Deputies

Q1:  What opportunities are there for professional development for deputy headteachers in South Gloucestershire?

A:  In common with all new appointments in schools the expectation is that each school provides its own induction programme.  In addition the LA provides a two day induction programme for all primary deputies as an entitlement All primary deputies can attend an annual conferenceoffered at a minimal charge.  Furthermore all primary clusters offer opportunities on a regular basis - ask your head for further details or contact Tom Whittingham:

Within secondary school two fora exist, Secondary Staff Development Leaders and Curriculum Deputies where elements of support and professional development are offered.  All deputies can access research through 'Leaders of Learning  and the South Gloucestershire Leadership Academy:
www.leadersoflearning.net

Further opportunities are available through NCSL programmes such as Leadership Pathways, NPQH and Established Leaders Programmes www.ncsl.org.uk

Finally local HEI's also offer accredited courses focusing on school leadership issues
