Q1: How do I become a Higher Level Teaching Assistant?
A: You need to have:

Q2: How much will I be paid as a HLTA?A: Local Authority guidelines recommend Hay 8 pay scale, however, pay is at the discretion of the Headteacher and Governing Body. |

Q3: Will I be expected to take whole classes?A: This may be considered as part of your role eg. a HLTA could be expected to plan and deliver a timetabled lesson under the supervision of a teacher. |

Q4: What responsibilities does a HLTA have?A: As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant you will be expected to take a lead role in delivering activities under an agreed system of supervision from a teacher. You will be able to supervise, plan and teach large groups of children or whole classes if required. You may be required to provide teachers with reports on children's progress and contribute to reports for other agencies who provide support for children. You may be asked to coordinate the work of other teaching assistants and to mentor new TAs through induction or in other training. You may be responsible for a specialist area and manage a small budget. |

Q5: Will I have access to regular discussions with my line manager about how well I am doing (Performance Review)?A: It is hoped that you would, although the length of the cycle will vary from school to school. |

Q6: How can I improve my basic skills in English, Mathematics and ICT?A: There are various ways of gaining a qualification in these
skills for life areas. GCSEs and adult Numeracy, adult literacy and ICT
qualifications are offered at local Further Education Colleges.
