Q1: What qualifications would I need to apply for a Learning Mentor post?A: It should be noted that this role is interpreted differently in different organisations. Careful note should be made of the exact person specification. No common national qualification exists, however, national standards do exist at Levels 3 and 4. Q2: What training, development and networking opportunities exist?A: Local opportunities can be found in the South Gloucestershire CPD Programme. It is essential that Learning Mentors access Child Protection training available through the Department for Children and Young People. A DfES publication ‘Learning Mentors’ offers useful guidelines. |

Q3: Will I have access to regular discussions with my line manager about how well I am doing (Performance Review)?A: It is hoped that you would, although the length of the cycle will vary from school to school. |

Q4: How can I improve my basic skills in English, Mathematics and ICT?A: There are various ways of gaining a qualification in these
skills for life areas. GCSEs and adult Numeracy, adult literacy and ICT
qualifications are offered at local Further Education Colleges.
