Lesson Plans and Assessment>  Levelled Assessed Tasks

 
This collection of materials has been developed by a group of Gloucestershire teachers who responded to an invitation to join a group producing tasks for KS3 pupils that could be used for formative assessment.

We had seen some good examples of assessment activities that Theresa Phillips consultant for East Sussex had developed with Uckfield Community School.  With her permission we were able to show our project team some examples of their work.

We also wanted to use the levelness statements which Jenny Jones, Wiltshire KS3 Science consultant, and Jeremy Frank, Bath and North East Somerset KS3 Science Consultant, had shown us at regional KS3 Science Strategy training.

The titles for each of the tasks are based on modules in QCA scheme of work for KS3 science and cover aspects of Sc2, 3 and 4.

During the evaluation process the activities were used for a range of purposes including termly or end of unit formative assessment as an alternative to the more normal test.  They were also used to identify misconceptions, as a target setting tool, for revision and to establish prior learning.  In lessons, they were successfully used by pupils working individually, in pairs and in groups, for homework and as cover activities.
