CACHE Certificate for Teaching Assistants - Unit 1 - The Role of the Teaching Assistant                     A Mandatory unit for the Teaching Assistants certificate at Level 3. To achieve the complete qualification it will be necessary to chose from either Unit 2 (Supporting pupils with particular learning needs) or Unit 3 (Teaching and Learning - focusing on literacy, numeracy and ICT). This course is the core programme and it will be necessary to link it with the equivalent of 30 hours or 10 x 1/2 days of additional learning, some of which will come from local authority training, relevant school staff meetings, twilight meetings and school INSET.

It will include some TOPs practical training using resource cards to help teachers develop generic skills or teamwork and co-operation, trust, communication, planning decision making and independence, as well as skills specific to the individual activities i.e. trails, physical challenges and orienteering. It starts with a very basic introduction to movement and getting used to holding and carrying a ball. It then uses a skills approach offering teachers individual and partner activities for the primary sending skills of rolling, throwing, striking and kicking.
